SOMEWHERE THINKIN' (TL) -- I've got things on my mind, like ...
Oklahoma
With all this talk about Texas seceding, perhaps it's Oklahoma that should consider severing itself from these United States. The state went overwhelmingly for John McCain in the last election. Not a single county in Oklahoma voted for President Obama. One newspaper in the state refused to even note that Obama won, choosing instead to highlight how its residents cast their ballots for McCain.
Over the years, through words and votes, Sen. Jim Inhofe has established himself as the most close-minded, ignorant, mean-spirited right-winged knucklehead in Congress. Then this week, the Congressman Formerly Known as Sensible, Rep. Tom Coburn, apparently decides Inhofe is getting too many fawning editorials back home and so he tosses a hand grenade in the credit card bill in the form of an amendment making it okay to take guns into what is statistically one of the safest places in America: Our national parks.

This is what passes for rebellion in America these days? Seriously?
I watched the American Idol finale and was struck not by what I am told was a stunning upset, but rather by the overall lameness of the entire enterprise. I think the real purpose of American Idol is to create personalities to populate future reality shows about "where-are-they-now" has-beens.
And the beat goes on ...

Speaking of has-beens ... we liked you better when you were in your undisclosed location, Dick.
